Large Labels: Positive ID Labels biggest ever label

Managing Director John Mayers saw some very large labels recently; on his building site – an opportunity knocked! John has recently built a home in Norfolk as a refuge from the hectic schedule of business. The home is very modern and replaced a bungalow that had seen better days that was on the original site. Having demolished the original bungalow, John’s new house rose from the ground, a picture of modernity and clean lines. Of course, with an eye for modern living and the environment, the building has been heavily insulated and incorporates a ground heat exchange heating system. The insulation used in the building is supplied by Beco Wallform who make self-build, pre-insulated modular concrete building systems. Never one to miss an opportunity, having seen the large labels, John contacted the company noticing that each item they supplied included a big product label. A conversation or two later and we had an order for 500 large labels, measuring 204mm wide, by 950mm long – 8 inches by 36 inches. Commenting on the order, John Mayers said:

This job perfectly suited to our digital label press. Flexographic tooling would be completely unsuitable for the job as it would require print cylinders of over 300 teeth – probably weighing more than 100kgs and completely un-handleable! The digital press is not restricted in the same way and can print over 2 metre long labels without any trouble.

Positive ID Labels have a Jetrion 4900 printing press which uses inkjet technology to print labels. The restrictions on length are driven by the software, not the hardware but can still manage 2000mm! The press can print up to 207mm wide although we normally run a little narrower for technical reasons. Finishing the job was made easy by using the lasers on the digital label press to indicate the cut lines for the finishing operator. This is a feature unavailable elsewhere in the UK! The finished product was packed in a purpose built wooden box to ensure that the labels arrived safe and well with the customer.
