Positive ID Labelling Ltd recognises that manufacturing has an environmental impact and that we have a responsibility to understand, manage and, wherever practicable, reduce that impact.

Our approach is based on practical improvements within our own operations: reducing waste, using resources efficiently, sourcing responsibly and making considered choices about the energy we use and the communities in which we operate.

We are committed to continually improving our environmental performance while maintaining the quality, reliability and service our customers expect.

Renewable energy and energy efficiency

We are committed to reducing the environmental impact associated with the energy used to manufacture our products.

Our purchased electricity is supplied through a 100% renewable, REGO-backed electricity contract. Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin provide traceability for electricity generated from renewable sources and enable us to account appropriately for our purchased electricity within our environmental reporting.

Alongside renewable electricity procurement, we aim to reduce unnecessary energy consumption through efficient production planning, appropriate maintenance of manufacturing equipment and responsible day-to-day energy management.

When investing in new equipment, energy efficiency is considered alongside productivity, quality, reliability and whole-life operating cost.

Waste prevention and efficient manufacturing

For us, the most effective way to manage manufacturing waste is to avoid creating it in the first place.

  • We therefore seek to minimise material consumption and production waste through careful job planning, accurate manufacturing processes and efficient use of substrates, inks, toners and other production materials.
  • Where practical, we combine and optimise production to improve material utilisation and reduce set-up and running waste – including developing technologies like ODINTM to help with this process.
  • We monitor our processes and continually look for opportunities to reduce spoilage, overproduction, unnecessary set-up material and other avoidable waste.
  • Where waste cannot reasonably be prevented, we seek to reuse or recycle materials wherever suitable recycling routes are available, with disposal treated as the least-preferred option.

Materials and responsible sourcing

  • We work with our suppliers to identify materials and products that meet our customers’ technical requirements while providing responsible environmental choices.
  • Where appropriate, we aim to offer customers alternatives that can help them meet their own sustainability objectives.
  • We also seek to minimise unnecessary packaging and transportation and favour suppliers who demonstrate responsible environmental practices.

Local sourcing and employment

Our environmental responsibility extends beyond energy and manufacturing materials.

  • Where commercially and operationally practical, we favour local suppliers and service providers. This can reduce unnecessary transport while supporting businesses within our local economy.
  • We also recognise the environmental and social benefits of employing people who live close to our manufacturing site.
  • Where suitable candidates are available, we actively seek to recruit from our village and surrounding local communities.
  • Local recruitment can reduce commuting distances and associated transport impacts while providing employment opportunities within the community in which we operate.

We believe that being a responsible local employer is an important part of operating a sustainable manufacturing business.

Transport and deliveries

  • We seek to minimise unnecessary transport associated with our operations through sensible purchasing, production and delivery planning.
  • Where practical, we consolidate purchases and deliveries, work with efficient distribution partners and avoid unnecessary movements of materials and finished products.
  • We encourage employees, suppliers and contractors to consider efficient and lower-impact travel choices where these are practical.

Pollution prevention and responsible operations

  • We are committed to operating our manufacturing facility responsibly and in accordance with applicable environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Materials, chemicals and production consumables are stored, handled and disposed of appropriately, with procedures designed to minimise the risk of spills, contamination and other environmental harm.
  • We maintain our equipment and working environment with the objective of preventing pollution and avoiding unnecessary consumption of energy and materials.

Continuous improvement

  • Environmental performance is not a one-off project and is included within our ISO9001 quality management system
  • We will periodically review our energy consumption, waste generation, material efficiency and purchasing practices to identify practical opportunities for improvement.
  • Where appropriate, we will establish objectives and monitor our progress against them.
  • We encourage employees to identify and suggest improvements, recognising that many worthwhile environmental improvements come from small changes to everyday working practices.

Our commitments

Positive ID Labelling Ltd will seek to:

  • purchase 100% REGO-backed renewable electricity or zero carbon emission certified energy
  • improve energy efficiency and avoid unnecessary energy consumption;
  • prevent manufacturing waste wherever practicable before considering recycling or disposal;
  • maximise efficient use of label materials and production consumables;
  • reuse and recycle waste wherever suitable routes are available;
  • consider environmental performance when selecting equipment, materials and suppliers;
  • favour local suppliers and services where practical;
  • recruit employees from our village and surrounding communities where suitable candidates are available;
  • minimise unnecessary transport and packaging;
  • prevent pollution and comply with applicable environmental requirements;
  • encourage employees to participate in improving our environmental performance; and
  • regularly review this policy and our environmental objectives.

Responsibility

The Directors of Positive ID Labelling Ltd are responsible for ensuring that this policy is implemented and periodically reviewed.

All employees have a role to play in reducing waste, using resources responsibly and identifying opportunities to improve our environmental performance.
