Thermal Printing is today’s most efficient system of in-house on-demand label printing. It is an ideal low cost system for both retail and industry to handle short run, variable detail printing. This technology is ideal for low volume variable label printing applications such as pre-packed sandwich labelling.
Thermal printing works using a heat activated print head, made up of a row of hundreds of tiny ceramic pins that heat up leaving a thermal impression on the print material. The sequential heating of the pins as the print medium passes over it leaves markings on the paper in the form of characters, numbers, barcodes or other images. This is ideal for sandwich labelling applications.
There are two main types of thermal printing, “thermal transfer” where thermal ribbons are used to transfer words or images to the label, the other system of thermal printing uses so-called chemi-thermal paper, having a chemical layer inside the paper that turns black in contact with heat.
Linked to your computer with a user friendly software package thermal printing allows the end user to design bespoke labels from scratch, store them and recall as needed. For a more professional finish, you can have labels pre-printed with your branding using multi-colour printing then over-print the label with the thermal printer for real impact.
Preparing a database of sandwiches, prices, ingredients etc means you can merge your product information onto your label stock on a daily basis as required. This really is the most effective way of completing your sandwich labels. Positive ID Labels have also created a nutrition calculation software to help for businesses needing to include nutrition data under the EU Food Information to Consumers regulations.
If your requirement is lots of short run labels, i.e. date coded labels for perishable goods, ingredients, part numbering, bar coding then you need to be looking at thermal printing for your business needs. Find out more about our sandwich labelling system.
